HARIO V60 COFFEE MAKER REVIEW
This review focuses on the Hario V60, a classic pour-over dripper that’s now offered in a variety of colours, including the turquoise model shown here. Built in Japan, the V60 is known for its clean, minimalist design and consistent brewing performance.
In ceramic form it feels substantial and well made, which is reassuring if you plan to use it in a campervan or at a campsite. Ceramic is fragile, so if you worry about breakage while travelling, Hario also offers durable plastic versions.
The packaging is minimal and recyclable, arriving in a simple cardboard box without plastic or polystyrene.
Inside the box you’ll find a small white coffee scoop that helps measure the correct dose for one cup, keeping recipes repeatable and brewing simple.
The included instructions are straightforward and concise—clear enough to get you brewing quickly without being overwhelming.

HOW TO USE THE HARIO V60
1. Wash the V60 in hot soapy water before first use.
2. Place the dripper over your favorite cup.
3. Take a size 02 paper filter and fold the two seams so it sits open against the cone. This helps the filter maintain shape and ensures even flow.
4. Add one full scoop of freshly ground coffee. Hario recommends a fine-medium grind for balanced extraction. Level the grounds by gently shaking the dripper.
5. Boil water and wait 20–30 seconds so the temperature drops slightly to avoid scorching the coffee.
6. Pour a small amount of water over the grounds from the center outward to wet them evenly, then wait about 30 seconds. This bloom releases trapped carbon dioxide from freshly roasted beans.
7. Pour the remaining hot water slowly in a circular motion. The brew should take around 2–3 minutes to finish dripping through.
These steps produce a clean, nuanced cup when you control grind size, water temperature, and pouring speed.
CUP CAPACITY
The standard size V60 is designed to brew a single cup. Larger models are available for brewing into a carafe or pot if you need more than one serving.
RECOMMENDED GRIND
Use a fine-medium grind for the best balance. Too coarse and water will pass through too quickly, leaving under-extracted coffee; too fine and extraction can become bitter and over-extracted.
WHAT I LIKED
The colour—if you like turquoise or teal, this model is charming and stylish.
The V60’s classic, uncluttered design is another strong point. The build quality is excellent for a ceramic dripper, and it produces a clean, flavorful cup.
Paper filters are required, so you’ll need to bring a small supply when camping, but size 02 filters are inexpensive and widely available.
Overall the V60 brewed excellent coffee. In a side-by-side taste test with an AeroPress, I slightly preferred the AeroPress, but the difference was small—my palate is biased toward AeroPress because I use it daily.
WHAT I DIDN’T LOVE
The ceramic model feels a bit pricey for a simple dripper. If cost or fragility is a concern, Hario’s plastic V60 is a budget-friendly and more travel-proof alternative.
